Restoration of the Soldiers Memorial Gardens Krupp Guns

Captured on 8 August 1918 by the 27th Battalion, known

as “Unley’s Own”, during the Battle of Amiens, these guns

were taken on the first day of the Hundred Days Offensive.

Around 8,000 men served in the battalion, and 1,169 never

returned home. The young men of the 27th, commanded

by former Unley Mayor Lieutenant Colonel Dollman,

broke through German lines, advancing 11 kilometres and

capturing around 200 prisoners of war and enemy artillery,

in a battle that changed the course of world history.

Now rusting and at risk of permanent loss, these guns

deserve preservation, restoration, and a clear plaque

explaining their significance for future families of Unley.
